WIP Wednesday

June 6, 2012

I cast on for Bigger on the inside on Saturday, and found myself not entirely liking the pattern. It might be because I was knitting it in mixed company on Sunday and had to concentrate a little too much on both conversation and pattern, or because that whole top sideways portion of lace is sort of the wrong mix of repetitive and not — the yarnovers and decreases switch up just enough that maybe I haven’t gotten into the autopilot groove quite yet. The yarn is ridiculously soft, though, even though it doesn’t look it here. (It’s Debbie Bliss Rialto 4-ply. So squishy!)

When I got home, I felt a need to do something I liked more, so I cast on for a second Afternoon tea — I call this one “Another cuppa” because I’m a sucker for silly project names.

The first one I made in four or five days, right after the pattern was released — I guess I got some sort of bug up my butt. This one is probably going to be a bit slower, but it’s still a really quick knit. The color changes are really interesting; the yarn is Gründl Hot Socks Spectra, and all that teal was sort hiding inside the ball as a bit of a happy surprise. I thought it was going to be mainly purples, but I’m liking it.

Both of these shawls are a bit of procrastinationy avoidance of an older WIP — a simple cardigan in lace yarn which is boring me to tears. I think I might take it with me on our trip to California, to make myself actually work on it. If I was more daring, I’d bring it on the flight, but I don’t want to lose either the project or the needles.

So, whatcha working on?

I love how the colours are working up on that shawl.
