Tea pot update.

I went and picked up my teapot – aside from a mysterious metal string thingy, which we discovered after the first firing and didn’t remove completely because it started taking too much clay with it, and which now became a weird ferrous blob (I sanded it down a bit), it’s so cute! And it pours, with nary a dribble! I took some pictures, but I think I need better lighting.

(They’re coming, don’t fret. I would not neglect an opportunity to pimp mah mad pottery skillz.)

Necessity is the aunt.

I have no yarn swift. I do have some online-auction yarn (plant dyed in the 80′s according to the tag) in hanks. Trying to wind balls from a free hank is a bad bad thing.

I haven’t given it a test drive, but it’s very dorky and cute. I don’t know that I’d use it when I have company, because it might be up there with dressing your pets or giving your plants names. (Neither of which I actually do, mind you.)

I also finished the dratted capelet – and of course it’s too big. Not by a lot, just enough that it’s vaguely unflattering. I’m going to try putting in a ribbon to cinch it, but I’m not up to knitting the same thing for the third (second-and-a-halfth) time. In a different yarn, sure – but not the exact same thing.

My mom wanted company to the flea market, and I figured what the hey. Poking around is fun, and I might even find some yarn!

I didn’t, but I did find this:

I saw it, and had to ask what the guy wanted for it, in case he didn’t want the moon – I finally got it for about fifteen dollars! It even works; needs some oiling, but everything goes round and round and up and down. I’m a geek for all ages.

And now I’m going to take a bath and read Agatha Christie. I’m an old lady for all ages.

The arm warmers fit like a, well, glove. He gave me the old ones back – I’m going to frog them and make myself a pair, maybe with some fancy-schmancy pattern or something.

In other news, I’ve been working on this capelet for the past four or five days. I substituted thinner needles and yarn, so it’s taking a while. Yesterday I discovered that at one point, I’d slipped the increases over a couple of steps.

And then I cursed.

I put in a retro- lifeline, like so:

and ripped back ten or so rows – but I had issues making the yarnovers work. So I just frogged the whole thing and started over – and tried a 1×1 rib instead of the 2×2 I had originally.

Fingers crossed this time around.

Armwarmers – again.

So the arm warmers I made my brother for Christmas turned out too loose. I picked up some nice 100% wool yarn and made him a new pair – these should fit. And if not, I’m taking them back and making him a pair from kneesocks.
